The MSc in strategic management accounting provides students with a systematic and rigorous postgraduate specialisation in management accounting within the context of strategic management.

Accreditation and Awarding Body

Who is the MSc in strategic management accounting for? 

If you want to accelerate your career progression and go on to qualify as a Chartered Management Accountant, then this programme is for you.

The programme is suitable for:

  • Prospective and current CIMA students completing the CIMA management and strategic levels
  • High calibre executives already pursuing a business career who wish to accelerate their promotion prospects
  • Qualified accountants who want to add a specialist Master’s qualification to their CV
  • Exceptional business graduates.

Admission Requirements

  • At least a Second Class Honours Grade 1 or equivalent in a business degree.
  • Substantial prior accounting knowledge, and not less than equivalent of CIMA exemptions P1, P2, F1.
  • Minimum of two years relevant professional experience.
  • For exceptional candidates, the faculty may relax either the academic or work experience requirements, but not both.
  • An individual interview may form part of the selection process.

Course objectives
The vision of the MSc in Strategic Management Accounting programme is to equip participants with a systematic and rigorous knowledge of management accounting within the context of strategic management.

The collaboration of UCD Smurfit School and CIMA, together with the business community, have informed the design of the programme so that it responds to strategic corporate needs.

The programme will:

  • Equip you with the most advanced techniques and tools in management accounting, management control and performance management;
  • Foster your ability to translate and implement strategic objectives through management accounting and control systems;
  • Provide you with the ability and method to analyse a management accounting and control system;
  • Equip you with the expertise to define and implement the management accounting and control system appropriate to the strategic needs of your organization;
  • Develop your leadership capabilities to undertake key roles in the management of organisations.

Assessment

Assessment is based on examinations, which are held at the end of each semester and continuous assessment. There will be a particular emphasis on practical organisational applications of knowledge through, for example, an innovative enterprise-based research project.
