PRISA PUBLIC RELATIONS PRACTIONER

The Public Relations Institute of South Africa (PRISA) is a Professional Institute operating in the communications sector, established in 1957, is the professional body for public relations and communication management. It endorses and recognises quality education, training and skills programmes and provides continuing professional development and information services for its members. It sets standards and has a globally recognised code of ethics and professional standards

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For those in the first few years of their public relations and communication careers –recommended four to seven years' experience in public relations and communication as well as relevant qualifications.
10 days full time in two blocks of five days each.

PRISA PUBLIC RELATIONS SYLLABUS

The programme provides you with a solid practical grounding in all the key concepts, techniques, theories and skills needed to develop effectively as a practitioner.
The profession:
Challenges and functions of the public relations practitioner ethics
Communication theories:
How do we succeed in persuading our target publics to change their attitudes, opinions and behaviour? How do stereotyping, gatekeepers and opinion leaders affect awareness campaigns?
Research:
Measure the effectiveness of public relations tactics.
Internet technology trends and its impact on public relations
Public relations campaign planning and management

SAQA ACCREDITATION

Certified Technical Accountant is registered and aligned to SAQA qualification/unit standards.

EXAMINATION SESSIONS:

Learners are assessed through a Portfolios of Evidence (PoE) and can choose amongst a selection of suitable all year round dates for assessment.

ASSESSMENT/CERTIFICATION/AWARDING BODY

Learners are required to write assessments per module as well as submit PoE’s projects. The Certification body for the Public Relations Foundation Skills is the Public Relations Institute of South Africa. The diagram below shows articulation and assessment levels

THE TUITION/STUDENT SUPPORT CENTRE

Support lectures are run by Spectrium’s Faculty of Communication, located in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. Spectrium is a recognized and listed PRISA Student Support Centre.

Full Time – Monday - Friday

CAREER PROGRESSION

Upon successful completion of this programme learners can move on to do the PRISA Public Relations Management. Graduates are qualified to receive the professional designation Public Relations Practitioner (PRP) from PRISA and can advance to the programme in Public Relations Management.
